On April 29th, 2013, State Representative and Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie C. Decker was honored by Riverside Community Care’s 22nd Annual Appreciation evening for her work on issues of domestic violence.

Over 500 attendees gathered in the ballroom to celebrate Riverside’s vibrant staff, progress made by persons served, and the ongoing support of family, friends, and colleagues. Borja Alvarez de Toledo, Riverside’s Division Director for Child and Family Services, presented Representative Decker with a Recognition Award for her commitment to The Guidance Center’s High Risk Team and work preventing domestic homicides in Cambridge, MA. This honor is only bestowed on two individuals annually.

In her speech, Representative Decker expressed her gratitude to be counted amongst the individuals honored that evening. Speaking to providers and receivers of care for the work they have done in their communities, she told them, “You are the extraordinary individuals who help people find their role and their path.”

Representative Decker concluded her remarks by describing Riverside’s approach to health care and human services as an “exemplary model of the ways in which to build and sustain ethical, just, and compassionate communities.”
